The versatile REGAL© folder/gluer system and other specialized technical expertise from B&R Moll, Inc. are helping Cooper Printing rapidly boost its business by consistently exceeding customer expectations. Innovative and diverse technical upgrades from B&R Moll are allowing Cooper Printing to greatly expand its finishing capabilities, shorten the production schedules of its customers, and speed up its own billing cycles.
Result: Cooper Printing is really hiking its sales by being increasingly useful to its customers, saving them time, and giving them more opportunities to secure new business.
Cooper Printing, a high-end printing and finishing company headquartered in Fairfield, NJ, has rapidly expanded its production capabilities, consistently met challenging customer needs and increased the frequency of its billing cycles, thanks to recurring use of technical upgrades and new equipment designs provided by B&R Moll, Inc., of Ivyland, PA. Cooper Printing specializes in printing and finishing packaging used by the pharmaceutical and electronics industries.
"I realized we needed a dramatic upgrade in our finishing capabilities and had to be more efficient to expand production, consistently meet customer expectations and speed up our billing cycles," said Tom Cooper, owner of Cooper Printing. "We were under equipped to handle many of our production needs because our equipment didn’t have the versatility to handle the type of products coming off our 5- and 6-color presses. We could print this work but couldn’t finish all of it in-house. Also, we needed to have better, high-tech solutions to the diverse and frequently challenging needs of our customers."
The additions and upgrades that Cooper has made have paid rich dividends. The company’s sales are substantially up and customer satisfaction has never been higher. An important component contributing to Cooper Printing’s increasing success is its use of Moll’s innovatively designed REGAL® folder/gluer system. The system includes a primary pocket folding/gluing unit and a complementary, versatile folding unit that glues, forms pockets and is capable of changing product directions for secondary operations. The system is equipped with such features as one fold plate, a Tipper Plate offering exceptional versatility, built-in sheet spacer and batch counter, and DC controls. This high-speed, versatile system has greatly improved Cooper Printing’s ability to handle varied, big-volume jobs in a more efficient, highly timely manner. Cooper Printing recently has added two major new systems which have further strengthened its technical capabilities for fast, high-quality product delivery. One is a stand-alone, bottom friction feeder system which features off-line folding and the ability to insert security tags; a four-line, hot melt gluing system; and a double-sided tape applicator. The bottom friction feeder system also incorporates a versatile conveying unit which allows for effective plowing, gluing and taping. The other system is a uniquely designed Label-Air® unit which works in conjunction with the bottom friction feeder system to provide remarkable insertion efficiencies.
Use of Cooper Printing’s folder-gluer system, bottom friction feeder system and Label- Air unit has enabled the company to be much more responsive to customer needs. For example, to shorten its production schedules, a leading electronics manufacturer required that Cooper automate its basically hand operation of inserting theft-deterrent security tags in that customer’s product packaging. Cooper Printing effectively complied with this request by use of the Label-Air unit, which worked smoothly with the bottom friction feeder system for impressive results. The Label-Air unit is capable of inserting up to three sensormatic tags per second for a running average of 8,000 tags per hour. In comparison, the former insertion system could only insert 1,000-1,500 tags per hour with 50-60 workers taking part in the operation. In this operation, the Label-Air unit is easily fitted in an open area on the table containing the conveying unit of the bottom friction feeder system. There it applies a sensormatic tag to each package. This operation has greatly shortened the production schedules of the electronics manufacturer, enabling this customer to get its time-sensitive products more quickly into the marketplace. It also helped Cooper Printing to speed up its billing cycle with this customer.
"Providing sound, high-tech solutions to our customers’ needs has become top priority with us" said Tom Cooper. "It helps us expand our business by becoming more useful to them and, of course, boosts our sales. In so doing, we provide our customers with peace of mind, while saving them time and giving them more opportunities to secure new business. This makes for good business for everyone. Our focus on quality customer service is simply a matter of dollars and sense."
